Auricular Therapy
Auricular therapy is a technique dating back over two thousand years which combines the fundamentals of modern medical science based on neurophysiology and neurology, and concepts of traditional acupuncture. Auricular therapy is based on the idea that the entire body is represented on the auricle – meaning the outer portion of the ear and the entire body can be effectively treated by applying stimulation on the surface of the ear.
Each area of the ear, according to auricular therapy, is related to a different anatomical portion of the body. Applying stimulations to those ear points can bring about relief of many symptoms. Auricular therapy involves the placement of vicaria acupuncture seeds on the outer surface of the ear to stimulate the points in the ear. This procedure is entirely pain free, and allows a person to remain relaxed and comfortable.
Auricular therapy can be used effectively for smoking cessation and other addictions, such as drugs and alcohol. Auricular therapy can be also used in the treatment of arthritis, asthma, indigestion, migraine, urinary problems and nervous disorders. The treatment duration varies. Auricular therapy, which makes use of electrical stimulation to detect the exact point on the ear, is free from side effects but is not advised for pregnant women or those with pacemakers.
